History
This typical Andalusian manor house was built in 1901 by Antonio Avellán Trucharte, whose father was from Castilléjar and his mother was from a noble family from Huéscar (Trucharte García de la Serrana). Antonio was a municipal judge in the town of Castilléjar.
In 1888, Dr. Eliseo Avellán was born in this house, having studied medicine in Granada and Sevilla and then surgery in Madrid (Instituto de Terapéutica Operadora de Federico Rubio Galí de Madrid) (1908-1916), he moved to Murcia in 1920 where he lived and set up his own clinic. He did publish several scientific articles on nephrology, urology and thyroid diseases. He was also a Freemason and lived the end of his life between Castilléjar and Madrid.
A small museum traces the history of surgeon Eliseo Avellán Fernández and his ancestors.
